Make Your Same-Sex Spring Celebration Unique!

Spring_HeaderYes, Spring seems to be the season of choice for unity celebrations whether your homosexual or heterosexual.  And why not!  Beautiful flowers to choose from, lovely weather, and the outdoor venues beckon.  So just how do you set your celebration apart from the onslaught of weddings, civil unions, commitment ceremonies, or domestic partnership celebrations - and make it uniquely yours?  Just get creative and remember...it may have already been done...but no one has to know it wasn't your idea!

Our Five Spring Tips For An Ultimate Gay Unity Celebration!

  1. Serve it up in a jar! Remember the Ball jars that grandma used to can her fruit and jams in?  Well maybe you don't if you weren't raised on a ranch or a farm.  But nothing says spring like placing your flower arrangements in a good old-fashioned Ball jar.  This adds an element of nostalgia, whimsy and spring for very little dough.  Add a drop of purple, blue or green food coloring to the water (make sure it is well diluted so as just to show a hint of color) and voila a stunning center piece.  Ball jars also make great glassware for your reception if your going for that country or southern flair.

  2. Go Wild. So you and your amore were out on a drive, saw a beautiful field of wild flowers and both commented on the splendor of the colors.  Then with a smile, and an eye for your budget, you thought..."Let's just do wildflowers!"  If you're in a part of the country where wildflowers abound and you want them incorporated in the mix of your gay unity celebration, then go pick flowers.  However, make sure that it is permitted or if it is on someones property, ask their permission.  Also, packets of wildflower or flower seed emblazoned with your names and celebration date make a great favor for your guests to take home.

  3. Moss, Wheat Grass, Teracota. Spring conjures up many wonderful ideas in the minds eye.  So how about taking a simple, small teracota pot, filling it with wheat grass or moss, a single favorite flower and there your have a centerpiece.  Another great use is to use floral picks with your guest names attached with a colorful spring card to indicate their assigned table at your reception.

  4. Fruit Affair! If you are into fruit and you want to bring additional color into the palate, then use real fruit to get the party started.  Take your favorite apple or chocolate dipped strawberries.  Add a floral pick (for strawberries) or use a ribbon to tie around the stem (apples) and attach your guests name and table assignment to the fruit.  Your guests find their table and enjoy a delicious healthy treat while they are waiting for you to arrive to the party!

  5. Be Whimsical. We just had to share this cake with our visitors.  We found it at Pink Cake Box.  It really brings forth the whimsical and beautiful aspects of spring.  Couple this with some Watermelon or Mango Martini's, Champagne Mojitos, or Pink Lemonade Mint Juleps and you've got yourself a fabulous Gay Wedding!

  6. Avoid Springing Forward. Check the calendar.  While most celebrations are held on a Saturday, quite a few couples will opt for a Sunday.  Make sure if you are planning a spring wedding that you check the calendar for the "Spring Forward" date. Nothing would be worse than having to wake up an extra hour early on your special day just because of the time change!
