S’now Time Like Winter to Tie the Knot! Guest Post by Susan Hawkins, for My Wedding Favors
I’ve always thought people who get married in the winter are the coolest! And yes, I got married in the winter—a frosty February wedding that had a special kind of warmth, if I do say so myself.
Even if you plan to marry in a place where the winters are mild, you can still use the most sparkling icon of the season—snowflakes—to decorate your reception. Imagine centerpieces with ice-blue and clear crystals, shimmering white and silver trees with branches covered in tiny lights and, of course, heartwarming winter wedding favors. Wedding favors, when they’re pretty, can add dramatically to your reception table décor and, especially when they’re practical, thank your guests with a useful reminder of the most wonderful day of your life. I’d like to show you some of my absolute favorites!
Snowflake Bottle Stopper The perfect topper for a bottle of vintage wine or champagne, which I suspect will be flowing like melting snow down a mountain at your celebration! And rightly so! When your guests take it home, this sparkling chrome bottle stopper adds just the right touch to one of the most popular ways of spreading cheer and warmth to family and friends throughout the season. Notice the detail in the gift presentation—always something to look for.
“Snow Crystals” Glass Coasters I do love favors you can use with virtually any color scheme, because I’ll know they’ll work beautifully in the home of every guest. That’s why I’m fond of these glass coasters. They come two to a package, and they bring the essence of the season to your tables, too. You might consider mixing and matching with the snowflake-themed bottle stoppers, since it creates a theme (there’s that liquid “cheer and warmth” again!) within a theme.
Snowflake Bookmark Just the thought of curling up in a comfy chair beside a cozy fire, with a best-selling book in one hand and a cup of creamy, hot chocolate in the other turns me on. I’m fairly confident I’m not alone in that idiosyncrasy, so a bookmark—particularly an elegant bookmark made to last—is always a welcome gift. This one is made of polished metal with a silver finish, and the ice blue-silk tassel just adds to the sparkle in this intellectually uplifting thank-you gesture for family and friends.
“Snow Flurry” Flocked-Glass Ornament/Place Card/Photo Holder If your winter wedding isn’t until after the first of the year, you can still thank your guests with the first new bauble for their next Christmas tree with this gorgeous flocked-glass ornament. But before they take it home, you can use it as a place card holder or let them know whom the day is all about with a favorite photo of the happy couple!
“Embossed Elegance” Snowflake Favor Box Okay. I’ll admit this particular favor isn’t as practical as the others, but when it comes to setting a warm winter ambiance at your tables, the snowflake favor box delivers. It goes with any wedding palette, and you can’t miss with an edible thank-you gift. Fill them with mints or a candy that’s the same color as one in your color scheme. Guests eat this kind of stuff up (usually before they even get to their cars to go home)!
